minotaur myth

A long time ago there was a man
called Minos. Minos was the king of the island Crete. King Minos had a powerful
navy and a beautiful daughter, when Minos grew bored he would attack Athens on
the other side of the sea.

Because he had no other choice the
king of Athens offered a deal with king Minos. The deal was if king Minos would
leave Athens alone, Athens would send seven Athenian boys and seven Athenian
girls to Crete every nine years to be eaten by the Minotaur.

The Minotaur was a bull headed man
that lived in the centre of a maze on the island of Crete, king Minos loved the
Minotaur, after thinking Minos accepted the deal.

After nine years it was time for
Athens to send the seven boys and seven girls to be eaten by the Minotaur.

Young prince Theseus had to do the
deal but he didn’t want to because he believed it was wrong to send children to
Minos to be eaten, Theseus told his father that he was going to Crete as the
seventh son of Athens, he was going to kill the minotaur and end the terror.

Theseus’ father didn’t believe
that Theseus could kill the Minotaur and begged him not to go, but Theseus took
his place as the seventh Athenian boy,

Before Theseus left he got a
letter from princess Ariadne saying that she will help him kill the beast if
not he will be eaten and to meet him at the gate to Labyrinth.

Theseus waited by the gate until
Ariadne showed up, Ariadne was holding a ball of string and a sword she gave
them to Theseus, she said that when the gates close he will have to tie the
string to them.

Theseus thanked the princes, but
the princess said that he has to take her with him to the maze because that was
the deal.

The next day Theseus the other
children entered the maze while Ariadne whites outside, as soon as the gates
closed Theseus tied the string to the gate and told the kids to stay there and
make sure that the string stays tied to the gates,

Theseus found the center of the
maze and killed the Minotaur with the sword that Ariadne had gave him, Theseus
followed the string back to the door and knocked on it,

Princess Ariadne was waiting on
the other side of the gates and opened them when she herd the knocking,

They all escaped and sailed quietly home to Athens to reunite them with their families.
